Amber with QueenieHere’s a happy pair: Amber, a volunteer at the Bonaire Animal Shelter, with a very contented dog, “Queenie.” One of the reasons the volunteers are so important is to play with and “socialize” the cats and dogs. And if you wonder whether it’s appreciated just take a look at the expression on Queenie’s face!

Volunteers In the photo are some of the greatest people on the island: those who volunteer at Bonaire’s Animal Shelter. The Shelter runs totally on contributions and one of the biggest and most important jobs is hands-on help. All of these people donate their time and energy to help keep the island Shelter open. Without them the place would not exist and those unwanted, homeless animals would never have a chance at a decent life.
Last Saturday many of the volunteers got together for a social time to meet each other in the garden of Bambu. They are shown with Shelter Manager Jurrie Mellema: Melody Hamilton, Tom Thurman, Wil Schut, Marja Heinemans, Ans Donker, Jane Disko-Madden, Peter Pels, Esther Jansen Hertz, Paul and Amina Wichers, Hans and Jolanda Wennink, Helma Schreuder, Renee Leach, Barbara Bianculli.

Because we are a non-profit organization operating on donations, we have a limited number of staff and usually cannot get to our email as received. We do, however, check it once a week. Please be patient with us; the animals have to come first and we will answer you as soon as we can.
